Exit Planet Dust
Due to work, health issues and common laziness, I have found it quite difficult to make frequent updates to this site. Also, since there are millions of sites out there that offer the same stuff that I post I kind of thought that it wasn’t really worth the effort for me to update this blog anymore.
So, If you want to grab the latest quality releases in EDM I suggest you head over to:
Globalnoises.org and sign up for their forum. There is an absolute shitload of great stuff there based on a great community of EDM purists that are willing to share all kinds of quality material.
For all the latest in underground hip hop go to http://beatboxradioshow.blogspot.com and http://underghh.blogspot.com. These two sites contain mainly RS links for all the latest 0 day releases.
For movies I usually go to surrealmoviez.info (need to sign up) and http://www.foriegnmoviesddl.com. Both sites are great for all your alternative and art house style films.
Well I think I’ve just about covered all you need to know on the places to get quality music and films. Quite a number of people have always said to me that I have such good taste in these areas and so I thought that this site would be my way of educating people to look beyond all that mainstream commercial hogwash that bombards our everyday life.
Anyway hope these recommendations have been helpful. Hope everything goes well for 2009.
I would like to sign off with a quote from the legendary hip hop producer DJ Premier :
"Underground will live forever, baby! We just like roaches: never dyin', always livin'. And on that note, lets get back to the program."
PEACE OUT !

Phil_K-Breaks_From_Australia-CD-2003

Okay here's a release that I found somewhere lying in my hard drive. This is a fantastic compilation from 2003 by Australia's own progressive breaks meister Phil K. Some great tunes in this mix cd, including tracks from Jono Fernandez, Lostep and Infusion. It’s a shame that Phil K has gone all electro house these days though.

Airwave Presents - Summer Euphoria (2008)

Here's the first in the 'Euphoria Seasons' series. I can’t get enough of this mix and it has been on my playlist for an entire week. Why can’t we have more of this stuff be played rather than that usual cheesy/fluffy stuff from Armin and Tiesto? There's no other than the pure trance mesiter Airwave compiling this awesome mix.

Discover 40 - Mixed By John Askew (2CD) 2008

Here’s a compilation to celebrate the 40th release of Discover Records. This contains the most popular releases in a 2 CD mixed by John Askew. Some nice tracks in there from Paul Miller, John O’Callaghan and of course John Askew. I’m not sure why the Giuseppe Ottiviani remix of ‘Exactly’ is in there. An absolutely pointless remix which doesn’t sound even half as good as the original.

VA - Sound System 01 Mixed by Hybrid 2CD (2008)

The duo responsible for producing intense cinema like sound scapes is back for 2008 with a double mix compilation.
The first disc is remix of film scores from movies such as Chronicles of Narnia, Man on Fire all the way to Babel and 28 Days Later. This is quite an impressive mix overall. Film score fanatics will definitely love this.
The second disc is where the beauty of this album lies. A very well mixed set with some quality tunes in there but of course a Hybrid set would not be complete without a cinematic finale which is what this mix definitely delivers.

Freestyle: The Art of Rhyme (2000)

Freestyle rap - 'an improvisational form of rapping, performed with few or no previously composed lyrics, which is said to reflect a direct mapping of the mental state and performing situation of the artist. It is non-scripted, non-rehearsed, uncut, and the rawest form of hip-hop'.
This is a documentary shot through several years highlighting freestyle's history and its prominence in underground hip hop culture. This includes live footage of battle scenes from rap legends such as 2pac and Biggie to the more conventional hip hop MC's such as Mos Def, Supernatural and Pharoah Monche.
This documentary is highly recommended for any hip hop fans and those who are willing to look beyond the shallowness of today’s hip hop culture.

Words from the City (2007)
Words from the City is a feature documentary exploring Australian hip hop through intimate and candid observations of some of the nations most potent and compelling artists. Focusing on several diverse characters from around Australia, including the Hilltop Hoods, Downsyde, TZU, Trey and Wire My Cuz, Words From the City explores the social and cultural compulsion of young Australians as they embrace the verbal battle ground to express their personal, political and creative voices. Words from the City follows the daily lives of these artists across one long hot summer, as they cement their positions at the vanguard of Australian hip hop, a movement that's exploding onto the musical landscape as one of our most powerful and energetic creative forms.Taken from madman.com.au

Half Nelson (2006)
Ryan Gosling (The Notebook) stars as Dan Dunne, a young teacher whose edgy yet brilliant approach to history inspires his inner-city students to think for themselves.
But outside the classroom, Dan's life is spiraling out of control. Wrestling with inner demons and nursing a serious drug habit, Dan finally hits rock bottom - witnessed by one of his troubled students Drey (Shareeka Epps).
With an unlikely friendship built on a shared secret, Dan tries to steer her away from a small-time drug dealer (Anthony Mackie). But no matter which way they turn to survive, their lives will change forever.
Ryan Gosling was nominated for a 2006 Oscar for his performance. Definitely worth checking out.
Oldboy (2003)
One night, Dae-su (Choi) is locked up in a mysterious prison - with no idea why. After 15 torturous years, he's suddenly released and given a mobile phone, a designer suit and a wallet full of cash…
This is truly a brilliant film. It has superb performances, great cinematography and style and is highly original. This film will take your emotions into overdrive.
Definitely not for the squeamish this goes deeper than just your average revenge flick and presents ideas which are compelling and at the same time shocking.
Check it out.
Killah Priest - Behind the Stained Glass (2008)

The priest is back again for 2008 providing the usual dose of masterful lyriciallsim. You will defintely not find any elements that resmemble today's mainstream hip hop. That being the typical glitzy, ring tone catchy, watered down 0 intelligence trash.
This album represents hip hop in its purest form. Although not as solidly produced compared to its predocessor The Offering, this LP definitely contains the typical religious interpretations and presents challenging thoughts on Priest's social commentary.

A Big Bang Love: Juvenile (2006)

Another film from Takashi Miike. That probably says it all about the plot linearity. The same director responsible for films such as One Missed Call and Audition, this movie is more a visual trip of symbolic images rather than full on extremism.
The story is set in some sort unconventional style prison where two detectives try to solve a murder of an inmate. This is definitely not a straight forward film that follows any conventional plot and the ending is purely up to one’s interpretation. This contains lots of weird scenes such as hanging out on rooftops and looking at space shuttles and Mayan pyramids. Explosive violence and homoerotic prison life is probably the main themes here in this film.
Midnight Movies: From The Margin To The Mainstream (2005)

This documentary focuses on the idea of a midnight movie which had its concepts based on screening low budget films at small independent cinemas in order to create a cult audience.
These films contained themes and images that would consistently push the envelope back in the 1970's era of social taboos.
Watching a midnight movie would be considered as a liberating experience as the audiences of the disaffected youth culture would get their weekly dose of nihlism and sexual diversity.
VA - Destinations mixed by Pole Folder (2008) 2CD

Hailing from Belgium, Benoit Franquet, a master of musical composition first caught my attention when his track "Apollo Vibes" appeared on John Dgiweed's Global Underground 019 Los Angles compilation. After 18 months in production, Franquet released his first full album of material, Zero Gold in May 2005 which was immediately boosted by DJs round the globe.
This is his latest offering with a superb blend of progressive beats and tech house sounds.

Airwave - Touareg 2008 (2CD)

One of the most prolific artists in the trance scene with many guises this is his fourth album from his origninal 'Airwave' artist name. This album is what defines real trance. In my opinion this is even better than his previous release 'Trilogique'.
